I organised a hands on film jam / hackathon over the weekend of Fri 18th May – Sun 20th May 2018, held at the University of York. Thirty designers, filmmakers, broadcast professionals, data wranglers and creative technologists descended upon the Digital Creativity Labs to collaborate in teams on the following task:
Create a short video story (e.g. film, television program, online viral video) that encourages and helps its viewers to understand insights within a digital data source. Your video story should take advantage of the possibility of personalising video content and the data shown to the viewer in order to help them understand this data.
By Sunday afternoon each of our groups has succeeded in making a prototype of a personalised data-driven interactive film, using an array of different techniques, styles, tools and topics – from popping your filter bubble to highlighting how your environment can impact on your mental health.
